Phoenix at Night

Night photographs have always interested me and I take great joy in capturing photographs of the "city" at night. I captured this photograph of Phoenix at night from atop a five story parking garage on 3rd & Washington at about 9:30 at night in February. This photograph was captured on ilford hp5 monochrome film, scanned, and processed in photoshop.

Phoenix at Sunset

I have alway been intrigued by the image of the "City" and all of its parts and inter-workings. Its not that phoenix it's self interests me that much but it just happens to be the biggest city i have lived in or around, so i have tried to capture my image of the "city" in phoenix. This image was captured on ilford hp5 monochrome film, scanned, and processed in photoshop.

Hand & Palms

Another self portrait of my hand. It just so happened that it was one of the few days in Arizona that the sun was behind some clouds, so i tried to capture that along with the palm trees and my hand. I captured this photograph on ilford hp5 monochrome film, scanned, and processed it in photoshop.

Hand & Branch

For a photography class i took we had the assignment of self portraiture. For obvious reasons its hard to photograph of yourself if you are the one taking the photographs, so i ended up with several photographs of my hands like this one. I love the diagonal line in this photograph created by my hand and the bush branch. I captured this photograph on ilford hp5 monochrome film, scanned, and processed it in photoshop.

Red Flowers

I love capturing images of colorful plants and flowers, that being said monochrome film obviously is not very colorful but who says you can't make it that way. I captured this photograph of the red flowers at the botanical garden in phoenix, AZ on a hot afternoon in September. It was captured on Ilford hp5 monochrome negative film, scanned, and processed in photoshop.

Duck on the Edge

While on a late afternoon walk at the Riparian Institute in Gilbert, AZ I spotted this duck on the edge of a mini peninsula in a small pond. While i liked the composition of the photograph it looked a little bland, so with a bit of photoshop smoke and mirrors... you get a duck on the edge of a pond on a cool October morning with the mist slowly lifting off of the water. This photograph was captured on kodak tri-x monochrome film, scanned, and processed in photoshop.

Crane by the Pond Shore

When living in a large city it begins to feel like i cant escape it, so i take ever chance i can get to get away form the concrete jungle. Sometimes you don't have to go that far to get away, I captured this photograph of a sandhill crane on the shore of a pond at the Riparian Institute about 16 minutes from my apartment in mesa, AZ. I captured this photograph on Kodak tri-x monochrome film, scanned, and then processed it in photoshop.

Teddy Bear Cholla

Moving to Arizona from a town in Idaho with an average snowfall of 10 inches in January and an average high temperature of 70 degrees in July, the Arizona desert was quite a shock. After living in Arizona for a year i have found great joy in photographing the desert plants indigenous to the southwest like this Teddy Bear Cholla. Like most of my photographs it was original captured on monochrome negative film, scanned, and processed in photoshop.

Book & Pen

One day while doing some reading for my art history class I saw the perfect opportunity for a great photograph. Although the original B&W photograph looked good when i scanned the negative and processed the image in photoshop i found that the image was much more interesting with a subtle blue tint.
